FROM THE PRINCIPAL

John Hudson
Start of Term
We have had a settled start to term 3 as the weather starts to get cooler. I hope children had a chance to rest up for a busy term. It has been pleasing to see so many children attending school in the Spreyton Primary School uniform. Winter uniform options are Spreyton Primary School jumper or soft-shell jacket.
Black Puffer jackets and Spreyton Primary School beanies may be worn in the playground during the colder months.
There is much to look forward to this term. This is just some of what is happening at Spreyton Primary School.

School Association BBQ Stall
Many thanks to the School Association for another very successful election day stall. Thanks to those who braved the terrible weather and volunteered on the day. The School Association was able to raise much-needed funds for Spreyton Primary School students.
Twilight Festival
Great news. Save the date. This event will be back on March 20, 2026.
Six dedicated parents attended our first planning meeting, with Kelly Wilson stepping up to coordinate this event. The planning committee will need support from other parents and carers to ensure we deliver another great community event. If you are interested in joining the committee, please contact the office.

CELEBRATION OF LEARNING - Prep/1 Warwick

In Mathematics, Prep/One Warwick has been learning about the “greater than” symbol ( > ).
For example: 7 > 4 means 7 is greater than 4.
We had lots of fun using a puppet crocodile who always wanted to eat the bigger number! We even drew our own crocodiles, making sure they opened their mouths toward the larger number.
Understanding which number is bigger helped us with our work on number bonds and addition.
A number bond is a simple way to show how numbers work together. It’s like a little picture that helps us see how a number can be split into parts.
For example:
- If you have the number 5, a number bond might show that 2 + 3 = 5.
- So, 5 is the whole, and 2 and 3 are the parts.
We enjoyed acting out number bonds using people to represent the parts and the whole - it was a fun way to learn!

FOYER DISPLAY - 3/4 Klineberg
In Term 2, 3/4 Klineberg was learning about the Water Cycle in Science. We learned about the different stages of this cycle, including evaporation, condensation, precipitation and collection. Our paper plate diagrams demonstrate the way the cycle works.

WHATS HAPPENING IN TERM 3

KOINZ 4 KIDZ SAUSAGE SIZZLE

A Sizzling Success!
Students, parents, and staff all got involved in this week’s Koinz 4 Kidz Sausage Sizzle, proudly organised by our dedicated Student Councillors.
The event was part of SeaFM’s Koinz 4 Kidz initiative—a community-driven campaign supporting Breakfast Clubs in schools across the North-West coast. Through this initiative, schools like ours help ensure that every child has access to a nourishing start to their school day.
We’re proud to share that Spreyton Primary School raised $805.65 through the sausage sizzle! These funds will go towards supporting our Breakfast Club, which continues to provide a warm and welcoming start to the day for many of our students.
A big thank you to our Student Council for their leadership, and to all staff, students, and families who supported the event.
It was a wonderful display of community spirit in action!

SETTING UP KIDS FOR SUCCESS IN READING

Recent news reports have quoted some worrying statistics around the percentage of young children being regularly read to by parents and carers, only 50%! This means that 50% of kids are missing out on the opportunity to become even more successful in this lifelong essential skill. Where do you sit? If we want our kids to flourish, like a garden, we need to water and feed them well. As parents, we are the guardians of this garden, especially in the early years where habits, routines and attitudes are formed.
Reading stories to kids regularly in the early years of life not only helps build positive, loving relationships but also provides the foundations for other language skills. It improves vocabulary, the understanding of how words and books work, questioning skills, how ideas are sequenced and different ways to express ideas.
As busy parents and carers, time is very precious and no more precious than the time we can spend with our kids to help them reach their full potential. So, we need to make and take the time to read and share books with our kids when they are young. They aren’t going to judge us, but they will appreciate the time given to share the joy of reading together. ‘I haven’t got enough time’ doesn’t cut it. We need to make time to help the garden blossom.

BOOK WEEK - Book an Adventure Competition

It’s so simple.
Go to the library and get an entry form at the start of Term 3. Read a book, then draw a picture about it and write neatly why you would recommend it to someone else. It can be any type of book, fiction or non-fiction.
Put the title of the inspiring book, your name, class and grade on the entry form and hand it to Ms Hamblin in the library by Thursday, the 14th of August.
There will a winner announced for each grade group at our Book Week Assembly on Wednesday the 20th of August.

SAVE THE DATE - SEEN
Could you do with some no-nonsense and practical parenting advice? How about strategies to care for yourself so you can fully show up for your kids? Join us for a night at Reading Cinemas on August 19th at 7.00pm for a screening of the parenting documentary called Seen, with pre-screening supper provided from 6.00pm. This has been organised by the School Association Committee as a way to bring our community together with the hope of enhancing the well-being of our families. The film features actual parents that everyone can relate to, including Joe Williams, a former Australian rugby player and professional boxer, openly sharing stories of how they’ve turned their families' lives around. Paired with a whole team of parenting experts, including Maggie Dent and Dr Billy Garvey, this makes for a night not to be missed.
We’re also super excited to announce that Allison Davies will be a special guest on the night to speak before the film, followed by a short Q&A at the conclusion. Allison has worked with Maggie Dent and other professionals featured in the film. She is a professional in her own right, touring nationally and internationally, conducting workshops and sharing her knowledge of understanding neurodivergence and trauma-informed approaches. We are really lucky to have her join us.
Tickets for this event are offered for free to the Spreyton community only. This week, they will be promoted to the wider community for a fee of $10 + BF. This is your chance to secure your free ticket.
So come and join us, grab a beer, wine or coffee from the kiosk and let’s enjoy a night of connection and insight together.
Please note this is an adult-only event.
