Family/Teacher Meetings
It has been pleasing to see the number of families attending these meetings. It is a great opportunity to discuss learning progress and look at an English work sample. There will be an opportunity to discuss class placements using a form provided at the meeting.
A form will be sent home to families that do not attend a Family/Teacher Meeting.
Grade 3/4K Book Launch
On Friday Grade 3/4 Klineberg launched their information in the library. They had put a lot of work into these books and the results were fantastic. Thanks to all the family members that were able to find the time to attend. The students were thrilled to have an audience at their book launch.
Devonport Eisteddfod
Congratulations to all students that participated in this competition. Thanks to all the staff that made this happen. It takes a co-ordinated effort across the school to allow students to compete. There were also some good results.

Family Survey
We currently have 28 responses. It is not too late for families to take part in this survey. The results from both the Student and Family Surveys help to shape our School Improvement Plan. Our current Wellbeing Focus is because of past surveys.

Sunsmart
Hats will become compulsory again in Term 4. Children must only wear the approved school hats.
Children without hats will be asked to sit in the shade.
School Uniform
I have noticed students starting to wear non-uniform items. Wearing a uniform is important to create a school community. It is also a safety consideration.
- Caps are not to be worn under any circumstances.
- Coloured jumpers and jackets are also not part of the uniform.
Thanks in advance to families for your cooperation with this.
Regards
John Hudson

SPREYTON PRIMARY - GROWING TOGETHER, LIVING TOGETHER

MUSIC TERM 3
Kinder
This term Children in Kinder have been focussing on the concept of beat and no beat. The children are beginning to read and perform music from basic music notation. The children have learnt the correct music words for Loud (Forte) and Soft (Piano) through playing simple music games that involve singing and playing instruments. The children have been singing simple echo songs and have learned to say Hello and Goodbye in Mandarin and Zulu.
I have included links below to see what your children have been singing and playing in their weekly music lesson.
Prep to Grade 1
Term 3 has focussed on consolidating beat and rhythm through movement, singing and playing. Students have shown great concentration as they have been challenged to keep the beat in their feet, the rhythm in their hands and sing along to the song. They have explored the rhythm patterns of words and phrases and created new verses for the songs “I like Pizza” and “Yummy Food March”. Students have been recognising, reading and playing rhythms containing crotchets, quavers and rests.
In the latter part of the term we focussed on pitch and melody. Each lesson we would warm up our voices and work on singing the correct pitch by copying singing patterns. You may hear them call the notes doh, re, mi, fah, soh, la, ti .
We have been identifying when pitch goes up and down and copying pitch patterns such as in the song “Ipsy Wipsy Spider”, a funky version of Incey Wincey. Thanks to Mrs Speight, we have been singing a morning greeting song in Indonesian. They are very clever. I’m sure they could sing it to you.
Grade 2
This Term the Grade 2 classes have been focusing on the way we can read, write and perform music using graphic (picture) notation. The children have used shapes and pictures to notate their music pieces when they were using their voice and the glockenspiels. In small groups the children have been performing and creating music pieces using music grids.

The children have been playing a percussion instrument when reading graphic notation to famous classical music pieces. Below is some links to graphic notation play-along we have used this term.
Percussion Play along.
Grade 3-4
During the first half of Term 3, those students competing in the Eisteddfod spent a proportion of their music lesson practising their instrumental parts whilst the remainder of the class completed a series of challenges on the keyboards. Students learnt how to change the voice and rhythm section settings, play simple chord progressions, and compose short melodies.
Our class music sessions have focussed on beat, rhythm and melody through exploring riffs (repetitive patterns). Students have worked in co-operative groups to create their own version on song lyrics including actions and presented this to the class. We have some very creative students, and we had a lot of fun with the actions. Students went on to copy then create their own melodic riff using guitar, recorder, or xylophone.
Grade 5-6
The 12 Bar Blues
This term students in Year 5-6 have been learning about 12 Bar Blues. The students have participated in lessons learning to play the 12 Bar Blues music using Marimba, Xylophone, Guitars, and Keyboards. Each lesson the students have watched an original version of the song and a more modern version and then discuss which version we prefer. We have listened to and watched a lot of early 1950’s Rock and Roll music as it uses the 12 Bar Blues as part of its structure. The 12 Bar Blues uses a structure that is easy to remember. I have provided an example of this in the key to G. I have colour coded all the school guitars and keyboards to make it easier to play. If you would like some dots for your child’s instrument, I can place them onto their instrument to help, make it easier to play.

Devonport Eisteddfod
Children in Grade 2 - 6 performed at the 2023 Devonport Eisteddfod in the instrumental and choir sections. Our recorder and guitar groups performed together as a group as well as performing in the solo, duet, and trio section. Each week our recorder soloists, duets and trios/quartets have been practising their music pieces during their weekly music lesson. It is a credit to all involved for their dedication to practise and perform their music pieces at a high standard.
The Grade 5-6 Choir performed “Riptide” and “The Nights” The Grade 3-4 Choir performed “Riptide” and “Splish Splash.” The Grade 2 Choir performed “Let’s Go Fly a Kite” and “The Addams Family Theme.”

In Term 4 all our choirs and groups will be learning new music pieces in readiness for end of year celebrations.
If you have any questions about the school Music program, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s Music Teacher.

CLAWS ON THE LINE
This week our Grade 4/5 students and Landcare Team enjoyed a 'Claws on the Line' incursion from the Bookend Trust, an environmental science education organisation. Dr Clare, Dr Alastair and Fiona ran a series of fun, 'hands on' activities to teach our students about the Central North Burrowing Crayfish, which is a nationally listed threatened species and is only found in our area. We are very grateful to the Bookend Trust for providing us with this fantastic opportunity. It was a fun and very informative afternoon!

PERCEPTUAL MOTOR GROUP GYMNASTICS
This term, our Perceptual Motor Group had the opportunity to visit Devonport Gymnastics Centre in Spreyton and participate in five fun-filled, skill-building gymnastics sessions.
These sessions aimed to help our students develop their perceptual motor skills, encompassing sensory perception and motor coordination.
The gymnastics sessions allowed the students to explore various equipment, such as balance beams, rock-climbing, trampolines, and mats. Our students honed their balance, coordination, and spatial awareness through these activities. Watching them conquer their initial fears and gain confidence in their abilities was heart-warming.
Throughout the session, the children also engaged in activities that involved following instructions, taking turns, and working as a team. These skills are essential for gymnastics and valuable life skills that will serve them well in the future.
As their PMP teacher, I was delighted to witness the growth and development of our students during this gymnastics adventure. Their ability to listen, adapt, and overcome challenges was truly impressive. I am immensely proud of each one of them.
We want to thank New Horizons and Devonport Gymnastics for their support, patience, and expertise in guiding our students through this enriching experience.
The Perceptual Motor Group's gymnastics adventure was a resounding success, filled with laughter, learning, and new friendships. We look forward to more exciting journeys and opportunities for growth in the future.
